Private medical cover

BNP Paribas’ private medical cover provides extensive coverage, with no need for medical underwriting, no exclusions for pre-existing conditions and no excess charge on any claims. Administered by AXA Health, it offers a range of options for medical care for you and your family, faster access and more flexibility in treatment and cover for diagnostic tests, physiotherapy, home nursing and some alternative therapies.

Prior to treatment you should:

  1. Read the AXA Health Handbook to ensure your treatment options will be covered. The Handbook can be found on Spectrum when selecting the Private Medical Cover option when selecting your benefits.
  2. Call AXA Health to discuss your referral and obtain authorisation for any claims. You will be reimbursed for the cost of both inpatient and outpatient medical treatment, up to the predefined levels set by the AXA Health Handbook.

BNP Paribas provides private medical cover as a core benefit. You can add your partner and children (covered up to age 25).

How to start a claim

  1. If you need a GP referral, book an appointment with your GP. If they say you need to see a specialist, or have more treatment, you should tell them you have a private healthcare scheme and ask them for an 'open referral'. Examples of services include Neurodiversity Assessment and Support Service.
  2. Before arranging treatment, either call the AXA Health Personal Advisory Team on 0800 068 6255; or register / logon to your online account using your e-mail address and membership number. It is important you contact AXA Health before seeing the specialist or having treatment so that they can tell you what benefit is available, meaning you don't end up having to pay for costs you're not expecting.
  3. When you contact AXA Health, have your open referral information from your GP to hand when you call, or including it when you submit your claim online.
  4. To book your appointment, AXA Health will need to share some personal information with the specialist including medical information. In some circumstance, you may prefer to make the appointment yourself.
